Action Post: How to prevent Bullying.

Charity they say, begins at home. Therefore, creating safe environments for children is a very important way to prevent bullying and help victims of bullying recover because physical and verbal bullying can occur anywhere. As a social worker, I can work with other professionals to educate school officials, parents and other adults about the ways in which the various forms of bullying can be harmful to a child’s well-being.

Also, I can educate children and adults on how to recognize the signs of bullying and at what point to take action. Having regular conversations with children about cyberbullying will also be beneficial. Children should be guarded against bullying because some children who are victims of bullying most of the times grow up to be bullies themselves.
Establishing clear consequences for offenders of bullying is another way to prevent bullying. The negative effect of bullying is so much that nobody should be allowed to go through it. And for this reason, there should be punishments for this act. Hopefully the government can take this issue seriously and put in place the necessary changes.

Informative Post : What is Bullying?

A major social issue in the society today is Bullying. Bullying happens when a person is picked on over and over again by an individual or group with more power, either in terms of physical strength or social standing. Types of bullying include: physical, verbal and social. Verbal bullying can involve cyberbullying; sending mean and offensive messages, or posting insults about a person on social media sites. The perpetrator of bullying is called a bully.
Most of the times, people are bullied because of their appearance, social and economic status. Bullies pick on the people they think don't fit in, maybe because of how they look, how they behave, their race, socio-economic status or religion. People who are bullied find it hard to concentrate and getting important things done in their lives might seem impossible. Children who are bullied at school tend to be more isolated and refuse to stay around people.
One of the saddening aspects of bullying is that it is persistent. When it keeps on, it is possible for it to put a person in a state of constant fear. Studies show that people who are abused by their peers are at risk for mental health problems, such as low self-esteem, stress, depression, or anxiety. They may also think about suicide more.
Also, bullying may have an adverse effect on the victim. Even though Bulling is a problem that has been addressed over the years, it keeps happening. The more it is talked about, the more it is likely to be repeated. Bulling tends to happen more within school environments. If proper steps are taken by schools and families to address this matter, bullying can be stopped.

Passionate Post: My thoughts and experience with bullying

Anyone can be a victim of bullying. While growing up, bullying was not rampant where I came from. But it is a big issue here in the United States. This is because United States is a melting pot whereby people come different nationality, race, language, religion and background come together. This is exactly why it is more likely to happen here.

Coming to the United States and blending with the culture was not too easy. Being an African with a heavy accent, I experienced people look down on me and even tease me because of how I speak. This influenced my ability to speak in public settings. I could not express myself freely and most times, I will rather remain silent whenever I’m around people that I do not know or those that look like are not from the same place as myself.

I could not imagine any of my child or loved ones have to deal with bullying. Bullying from my experience can be the worst thing that happens to anybody and the effects are long lasting, if not lifelong. Other than direct verbal bullying, I as a new immigrant witnessed people spreading rumors about me and sever al accusations. Going to school was difficult but the hardest thing is having to do group projects and you realize you are the only one who do not fit into their description of a worthy person.

Often times, I have been addressed as “this one” and asked to switch groups so they can get someone else who they think will be better than I am which left me with no option but to find someone else or even request that I do my own projects all by myself. Nobody deserves to be bullied and I think anyone who is a bully should be seriously dealt with.
